The Child Workshop was created in 1981 on the initiative of the Town Hall of Montemor-o-Novo. Its main goal is to value the children’s free time through socio-educational dynamics which provide the development of creativity, promoting the children’s welfare as well as giving them some references and developing their personalities in an affective environment.
With the doors open these children try to undertake their little big “Playing” projects through several workshops - in the pottery the mould out the clay and paint tiles; in the carpentry the make cars, boats and ping-pong rackets. They sew, hem or learn to weave. They paint finding out emotions and recreating imagination. They learn to combine food in the culinary courses. These are new proposals to fulfil the need to continue the fun children have at the street and schoolyard.
As the workshop was designed to play the entertaining activities are stimulated in our ludoteca (a place where toys are lent for children to play)…ant this is such a mysterious space that it invites you to meet your fragilities about growing and learning. This is the healthy game of being “played”, the game with the others where the aim is to respect the rules and where self-esteem develops and through socialization it’s possible to learn to respect each one’s individuality.
We direct all of the children’s energy while they play to the learning of solidarity, tolerance and understanding values.
When they are on holidays we organize holiday-camps, walks or journeys to the beach to provide the children the chance to enjoy nature and other environments breaking routines, trying to live in group and enriching their knowledge.
We share our space with the school community through educational projects designed in a partnership basis where the Art activities are valued thus contributing to the enrichment of the educative community.
